Employment opportunities, both clinical and academic, regularly arise within the Oral Health Centre.
All positions on offer require an Australian-recognised qualification, but the Dental Board of Western Australia does normally grant up to three years of temporary registration for dentists working with the University who do not hold Australian-recognised degrees.
In general terms, the only overseas-trained dentists who are able to immediately register are those with a Bachelor degree obtained from the United Kingdom, Ireland or New Zealand. Overseas-trained dentists, hygienists and therapists should consult the Australian Dental Council's website for more information.
Dental clinic assistants must hold a Certificate IV in Dental Assisting from TAFE or an equivalent qualification.
Working hours are negotiable and can usually be constructed to suit the needs of employees with family responsibilities.
For further information please contact our Business Manager, Stephen Home.
The Oral Health Centre annually offers a number of training positions for dental clinic assistants.
This program is directed primarily, but not exclusively, at school-leavers. A salary of $18.66 per hour is paid over four days per week, with the trainee undertaking the formal part of the TAFE Certificate IV in Dental Assisting on the other day.
The Centre also pays the TAFE fees for the 18-months this course runs.
Completion of Year 11 with a pass in English and Science (preferably Human Biology) is a mandatory prerequisite.
At the end of the 18-month training period, employment as a qualified dental clinic assistant will be offered subject to satisfactory completion of the TAFE program and satisfactory work performance.
